Key information

Who is the workshop for? Places are by invitation only. Primary Schools have been invited to bring any pupils playing wind and brass instruments at beginner level (first notes to grade 1).  This includes pupils taking part in Classroom Instrumental Learning projects (CIL, previously Wider Opportunities), PDMC PEP projects and any other pupils already learning to play at beginner level. This workshop is not suitable for pupils who have not yet started to play.  If your schools would be interested in taking part but you have not yet received your invitation please contact admin@pdmc.org.uk

When is the workshop? The morning of Friday 4 April 2025. We would like schools to arrive at The Octagon between 10am and 10.15am, ready to be seated to start the workshop at 10.30am prompt.  The workshop will end with a short sharing session for parents/carers and will finish at 12noon.

Sharing Session-Parents and carers are invited to join us for a 'sharing session' at 11.45am.  There is no charge for this and no tickets needed but due to space we have had to limit this to 2 (not including siblings that parents need to bring) per child Can parents please enter via the Octagon Lounge (there will be signs on the day), where they can wait from 11.40am.

What will happen in the workshop? The workshop will be led by Helen Minshall from pBone Music (Helen was voted Classic FM's Visiting Music Teacher of the Year 2024- click here for more information), assisted by local music tutors.  Participants will rehearse simple parts together and also have a chance to experience playing alongside some of our accomplished musicians as part of a very big band.  Parents will be invited to a short sharing session at the end of the morning.

How do I sign up? Please complete the short online form here to let us know who you would like to bring (one application per school please).  The deadline to sign up has now passed but if your school was invited to join in and you have not yet replied please contact admin@pdmc.org.uk

music

These parts, scores and backing tracks are provided to allow schools to practise before the day.  We don't expect anyone to be perfect, but children will get the most out of the day if they have had a chance to try the pieces in advance.  Some of the parts included are for our more advanced players.  Schools and CIL deliverers are welcome to choose the parts that they think most suitable for their pupils.  If you have any questions, or can't find a suitable part, please contact admin@pdmc.org.uk
