big sing performance event
the octagon, buxton,friday 4 april 2025
Key information
Who is the workshop for?
Schools- Primary Schools have been invited to bring any pupils playing violin or cello at beginner level (first notes to grade 1). This includes pupils taking part in Classroom Instrumental Learning projects (CIL, previously Wider Opportunities), PDMC PEP projects and any other pupils already learning to play at beginner level. This workshop is not suitable for pupils who have not yet started to play. If your schools would be interested in taking part but you have not yet received your invitation please contact admin@pdmc.org.uk
Other beginner players- Beginner violin, cello and double bass players (up to approx grade 1) who are not attending with a school group are also welcome. We would like these players to be accompanied by a parent or other adult but can arrange supervision by arrangement. Players will need permission from their school to be treated as 'Educated Off-site' for the afternoon.
When is the workshop? 1.30pm-3.00pm, Friday 4 April 2025. Participants to arrive between 1.10pm and 1.20pm to be seated and ready to play at 1.30pm.
What will happen in the workshop? Some fun musical activities, playing a few pieces together and a chance to hear a short performance from our senior players. Parents will be invited to a short sharing session at the end of the afternoon (2.50pm).

music
On the day everyone will work together to rehearse some music. Participants won't need to know this already or be able to read music, but for anyone who would like to have a look/try before the event you can find simplified music below. There is an 'easy' part (for very new beginners) and a 'hard' part (for players who have been learning for a little bit longer) for violin and cello.
